Whether you’re suffering with hair loss or want better hair growth I’m talking today about the science behind natural alternatives to stronger healthier hair.
Hair loss is a big issue for both men and women.
There can be many underlying reasons for hair loss. Book your appointment with your naturopath and have a thorough assessment. You want to rule out thyroid issues, nutrient deficiencies and hormone imbalances. High testosterone levels can cause hair loss and this is called androgenic alopecia. Androgenic alopecia is commonly referred to as Male Pattern Baldness in men. But, androgenic alopecia is common in women as well.
In this post we’ll look at the comparison of using a conventional medical treatment for hair loss (Rogaine) vs. a natural alternative (Rosemary essential oil). Personally, I’m a big fan of using Rosemary essential oil treatments for hair growth. I often recommend a rosemary essential oil hair mask as part of a natural hair growth protocol with my patients looking to treat hair loss or boost growth. So, what does the research say?
Rogaine Vs. Rosemary Oil
We have a study done on 100 women experiencing hair loss due to high testosterone (androgenic alopecia). 50 of them applied rosemary oil to their scalp for 6 months and 50 of them applied Rogaine to their scalp for 6 months. At the end of the 6 months both groups experienced a significant increase in hair count! What’s the takeaway? Rosemary oil was just as effective as Rogaine.
How Does it Work?
When used topically, rosemary oil can enhance micro capillary perfusion. Basically, it increases the blood flow to our tiny blood vessels like the ones that supply our scalp and hair follicles giving them that extra boost of nutrition to grow.
Now, you still need to address the internal issues. With androgenic alopecia there are herbal therapies that can be used under your naturopath’s guidance. It’s important to address the root cause and not just treat the symptom at a surface level.
But, whether you have severe hair loss or just want to boost hair growth, add a few drops of rosemary essential oil to your shampoo or make a rosemary oil hair mask and see how your hair looks after a few months!
You should love your hair.
